Eighth-grade students from Mrs. Iroler’s science classes at Dalton Intermediate School embarked on an educational adventure last month as they visited the Little River Dam. The trip, organized as part of their Physical Science and Earth Science classes, offered a unique opportunity for students to learn about environmental conservation, wildlife, and local ecosystems while enjoying the great outdoors.

The Little River Dam, located just a short bus ride away from the school, provided the perfect backdrop for a day of learning and exploration. Nestled in a tranquil valley, the dam is surrounded by lush forests, rolling hills, and the Little and New Rivers.

As part of their curriculum in Earth Science and Physical Science classes learn about hydraulics, energy, and effects of water on our environment.  The trip to the Little River dam allowed for students to experience these topics in a real life learning environment right in their backyard.

The 8th-grade trip to Little River Dam was a resounding success, blending education, exploration, and appreciation for the natural world. The students returned to school with a deeper understanding of the environment and human interaction with the environment. The trip served as a reminder of the importance of experiential learning and hands-on education in fostering a generation of responsible citizens.
